Altar of Hieron
Like many areas of Syracuse, also Altar of Hieron deserves to be visited by those who love history and culture: it is a great monumental work located in the old quarter Neapolis. Dedicated most likely to Zeus Eleutherios (Liberator), the Altar of Hieron was the seat of the expulsion (in 466 BC), the last tyrant of Deinomenides, Thrasybulus of Syracuse, which was celebrated in honor of the feast of Eleutheria, with the sacrifice of 450 bulls, which would explain the size of the Altar.
