Genoa - St Lawrence's Cathedral
La cattedrale di S.Lorenzo
St.Lawrence's Cathedral
Genoa - St Lawrence's Cathedral
Narrow, at the centre of the town between alleys and the small squares, the St Lawrence's Cathedral is dedicate to the martyr and it's just one of the symbol of Genoa. It was built at the beginning of the XIVth century, and its suggestive narrow facade between the two towers presents the local typical Genoan style-gothic portals while the marbled statues of the two lions date back to the Nineteenth century; they seem to watch over the Cathedral. The inner is characterized with three aisles divided by columns surmounted by false gothic matroneoes and by Romanesque arches. The central aisl is entirely covered by the marble. At the left aisl you can enter the St Lawrence's Treasure Museum where you can admire sacred privileged objects such as the Sacro Catino that, according to the Catholics is the dish used by Jesus in the Last Supper.
