Il Vittoriano (Monument to Vittorio Emanuele II)
Vittoriano
Located in Piazza Venezia, the Vittoriano is a national monument dedicated to Vittorio Emanuele II of Savoy, the first king of Italy. Also known, by metonymy, as the Altar of the Fatherland since it hosts the Unknown Soldier, the Victorian was built after the death of the king, considered the Father of the Fatherland, and after unification. Today is one of the most impressive and famous monuments. A magnificent equestrian statue of the King (which was inaugurated in 1911 in the presence of King Vittorio Emanuele III), statues of the Italian regions (which are the central elements of the complex) and many other features of the structure make the monument a tourist stop for those who required pays a visit to the capital to the discovery of a glorious past.
