Located on the border between Senegal and Gambia, the Stone Circles of Senegambia were built at a time between the third century BC and the sixteenth century A.D. above in the previous burials, in which each circle is composed of a number of stones variable between 10 and 24 with different stones for shape and size. Heights between 1 and 2.5 meters, the circles are made of laterite stone. In the area you can find thousands of these mysterious stone circles, with the highest concentration located near Djalloumbéré (a thousand stones divided into 52 circles). Recent archaeological excavations suggest funerary purposes because of the many circles of human remains found in several sites where the stones are found. One of the theories of scholars believe that parts of the bodies of the dead were buried in tombs and in several different times. Shrouded in mystery and fascination, the circles of Senegambia are a must for lovers of culture and who pays a visit to Senegal and Gambia.
