The Fountain of Acqua Paola
The Fountain of Acqua Paola
Large and suggestive of a rare beauty, the Fontanone Acqua Paola fountain is one of the most enchanting city. Built in Baroque style in 1612 by Pope Paul V Borghese (restoring an ancient aqueduct of Trajan's time) to provide Acuqa of the Vatican, Trastevere and Via Giulia, the fountain (known as the Janiculum Fontanone or more simply, as Fontanone), consists of white marble with three arches of equal size and, in the wings, there are two smaller arches surmounted by blind windows, while the monumental façade presents illustrations of angels, monsters and dragons. A destination not to be missed for lovers of art and culture.
