A fianco della Basilica troviamo Palazzo Ducale, capolavoro del gotico veneziano, è diventato oggi il simbolo di Venezia.
Antica residenza del Doge e sede delle principali magistrature dello Stato è tutt'ora l'espressione più alta dell'arte veneziana.
Costruita nel XV secolo con marmi d'istria oggi è un museo con opere dei migliori artisti veneziani; da non perdere la sala del Consiglio per secoli la più grande sede di governo del mondo, il Ponte dei Sospiri, caratteristico ponte che collega Palazzo Ducale con le Prigioni Nove; quello che oggi sembra un nome romantico per le passeggiate in gondola degli innamorati ha una storia ben più triste: sembra che dal Ponte dei Sospiri passassero i condannati a morte per andare a espiare la loro condanna e alla vista di Venezia sospirassero per l'ultima volta.
