Compreso tra le province di Biella, Torino e Vercelli, si estende su una superficie di 56 Kmq, ha un perimetro di 10 chilometri e una profondità media di 20 metri che in alcuni tratti raggiunge gli 80. Sorge in una posizione centrale rispetto alle principali vie di comunicazioni nazionali e internazionali: l’Aeroporto di Malpensa, di Caselle, e i principali collegamenti autostradali e ferroviari del nord Italia sono facilmente raggiungibili.
