Imponente fortificazione militare che sorge sulla collina di Sarzana, la fortezza di Sarzanello domina la Val di Magra dall'alto ed è oggi uno dei simboli della località. Non c'è da stupirsi se per l'edificio vengono periodicamente organizzate visite guidate: ricca di storia, la fortezza è ora il risultato di vari eventi storici che videro Sarzana al centro di diverse dispute, data la posizione strategica di cui godeva. Conosciuta anche con il nome di castracani, la fortezza è composta da due elementi principali: il primo è il castello vero e proprio con tre bastioni al vertice; il secondo elemento è costituito da un terrapieno fortificato che forma con il primo una sorta di quadrilatero. Situato ad una certa distanza dalle abitazioni il castello è ora raggiungibile attraverso due strade carrozzabili. Una struttura ricca di fascino oltre che di storia, ed è indubbiamente una meta obbligata per chi ama la cultura. |
|  | It's an imposing military fortification erected on the hill of Sarzana, and it overlooks the Magra Valley. Nowadays it's one of the symbol of the town. No wonder if here you can frequent the periodical tour guides: in fact, the fortress is rich in history and it's present appearance is the result of several historcal happenings since several struggles has been done in Sarzana due to the privileged position which the town enjoyed. Known also as castracani, the fortress is composed by two main elements: the former is just the castle with its three bastions on the top, the latter is composed by a fortified embankment. Both the former and the latter form a kind of quad. Situated in a determined position far from the centre, nowadays you can reach it by two pedestrian streets. Rich in charm, the structure undoubtedly deserves to be visited by those people who love culture. |
