Nota anche con il nome di Porta di Sant'Andrea, Porta Soprana (da Superana) è una delle prinicpali architetture medievali in pietra della città. Poco distante da Porta Soprana si trova quella che si ritiene sia stata la casa di Cristoforo Colombo. Da notare l'iscrizione in latino nell'arco di attraversamento della porta: Nel nome di Dio onnipotente, Padre Figlio e Spirito Santo. Amen. Sono sorvegliata da soldati, circondata da splendide mura e scaccio lontano con il mio valore i dardi nemici. Se pace tu porti, accostati pure a queste porte, se guerra tu cerchi, triste e battuto ti ritirerai. Il Meridione e il Ponente, il Settentrione e l'Oriente sanno su quali enormi fremiti di guerre io Genova abbia prevalso [...]. Altre porta da ricordare sono quella di San Pietro, un tempo la porta principale del Ponente e la Porta di Serravalle, posta accanto alla cattedrale di San Lorenzo. |
|  | Soprana's Gate (from Superana), also known as St Andrew's Gate, is one of the most important stoned mediaeval architecture of the town. Not far from this gate there's the presumed Christopher Columbus' house. The Latin inscription in the gate arch can be soon noticed: in the name of omnipotent God, Father, Son and Holy Spirit. Amen. I'm kept tabs by soldiers, surrounded by splendid walls and I chase my enemy darts thanks to my value.
