Oltre ad essere conosciuta come località di mare, Finale Ligure è in grado di soddisfare anche le esigenze di chi ama la cultura: infatti, qui potrete ammirare la fortezza di Castelfranco. Ricca di storia, la fortezza è situata sull'altura del Gottaro, il promontorio che separa la Valle dello Sciusa da quella del Pora. Il forte risale alla seconda metà del Trecento e venne costruito per volere della Repubblica di Genova vincitrice di una battaglia contro i Marchesi del Carretto. La fortezza venne appunto costruita per creare una testa di ponte all'interno dei possedimenti dei Marchesi, i quali tentarono più volte e con fortune alterne di rientrarne in possesso. Dopo una lunga storia travagliata il forte venne adibito, sotto il Regno di Sardegna, dapprima a carcere, poi ad infermeria. Oggi, il forte si presenta quale meta turistica e culturale da non perdere. |

Rich in history, the fortress is placed on the height of Gottaro, the promontory that divides the Valle dello Sciusa from the Pora's one. the fortress date back to the XIVth century and it was built by the Republic of Genoa, winner of a battle against the Marchesi del Carretto. So, the fortress was built in order to be a strategic point inside the Marchesi del Carretto's possessions. The latter tried to conquer it again several time with an alternative fortune. After a long and suffered history, the fortress, under the domain of the Regno di Sardegna, became a jail at first, and then, it became an infirmary.
