Le Mura

The City Walls

Maestoso esempio di arte difensiva militare, queste splendide mura circondano interamente la città offrendo un suggestivo percorso nel verde dove poter ammirare dall'alto: le campagne ferraresi da una parte e il centro con le sue torri, il castello e i campanili dall'altra.In queste mura si riconoscono tutte le tecniche di difesa del '400 e del '500.

Le mura sono realizzate in laterizio e sono interamente circondate da alberi e verde, si presentano come un meraviglioso giardino dove fare lunghe passeggiate rilassanti o seguire i suoi percorsi ciclabili e scoprire così: porte storiche, baluardi, torrioni, fuciliere e cannoniere che rendono questo luogo affascinante con una storia tutta da scoprire.

Dal castello Estense si possono raggiungere le mura attraversando corso Ercole I d'Este e passando sotto la famosa Porta degli Angeli, dove si narra che il duca Cesare d'Este uscì mesto da Ferrara seguito dal suo corteo nel 1958. Da Porta degli Angeli si raggiunge anche il Parco Urbano per una tranquilla passeggiata lungo gli argini del Po o per scoprire le bellezze delle campagne ferraresi; proseguendo poi verso sud si rimane affascinati dai quattro imponenti baluardi a forma di asso di picche costruite da Alfonso II fra il 1575 e il 1585.
